Easy Fix For Startup Issues Driftbound: Idle Space RPG

DRIFTBOUND. Command your ship, build your fortune, and drift ever deeper into a living galaxy.

Driftbound is a relaxing idle and incremental space RPG. You get one ship, a very large procedurally generated universe, and no particular hurry. Mine, craft, trade and fight your way from the safe core worlds out to the lawless rim. The simulation keeps running while you're away, so you come back to fuller holds and more credits than you left with.

Buy it once and play. No ads, no pay-to-win, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no account to make. Just you, your ship and the long haul.

THE LOOP
• Mine asteroid belts, harvest gas clouds, refine ore and fabricate components.
• Scan deep space for hidden anomalies and rare salvage.
• Buy low, sell high. Every station runs its own economy, so distance is what makes a trade route worth flying.
• Pick up haul contracts and bounty work from the bulletin board.

UPGRADE YOUR SHIP
• Six module slots to fill: engine, cargo, mining laser, weapons, missiles and shields.
• Plenty of module tiers, a perk tree, and rare gear that only turns up a long way out.
• Every upgrade earns a bit faster than the last. That's the whole idle engine, really.

EXPLORE
• Galaxies, then systems, then the bodies inside them, all procedurally generated.
• Plot a course across the gate network and autopilot flies the multi-hop route for you, even offline.
• The deeper you push, the worse the security rating gets. More danger, much better loot.

FIGHT PIRATES
• Idle ship-to-ship combat with shields, weapons, missiles and auto-engaging batteries.
• Winning actually feels like something. There's confetti.

SMUGGLE, AND RUN FROM THE LAW
• Customs scan you at the warp gates. Pay the fine, bribe them, run, or shoot your way through.
• Contraband is worth most if you can get it from the lawless rim into the wealthy core.
• Pick up a bounty and the Sector Police start hunting you. Fit a Smuggler's Hold to slip past, or go and clear your name at a Security Office.

COLLECT AND RAISE SPACE PETS
• Hatch rare eggs in a station incubator. Incubation runs in real time, so it ticks along while you're away.
• Equip a companion for a solid buff, feed it to level it up, and trade at the Space Farms.
• Your pets stay with you. They survive prestige.

FLY ONLINE, OR DON'T
• See other pilots docked at your station or out in your sector. Real players, plus a handful of NPC "Residents" that are always tagged ◇ so you know which is which. Anonymous, no account, no email.
• Wave, or spar against a snapshot of someone's ship. Nothing is at stake either way.
• Build a pilot worth showing off: 26 trophies, collectable Outfitter suits with set bonuses, your pets and your duel record.
• Want the quiet version? Turn on Do Not Disturb, or switch the online layer off completely in Settings. It's never needed to play.

STASH, CRAFT AND STARDUST
• Bank overflow cargo in a Subspace Cache that keeps storing while you're offline.
• Craft your own weapons and gear at the Workbench out of whatever you've gathered.
• Stardust builds up over time, and gets spent rushing hatches and skipping warp cooldowns.

A GALAXY WITH A STORY
• A main campaign, five faction questlines, and a pile of side chains on top.
• Earn pilot ranks, fill in the Codex, claim daily rewards, and there are galaxy-wide events every week.

PRESTIGE AND THE LONG GAME
• Re-enlist to bank Renown, then spend it at the Admiralty on fleet-wide perks that stick around for every run after.

BUILT FOR IDLE
• Offline progress runs the same logic as live play, and you get a proper welcome-back summary when you return.
• Crisp pixel-art ships, worlds and stations, with a calm cockpit HUD to fly them from.
• Playable in 9 languages.

Strap in, pilot. The drift is calling.
Mine, trade, smuggle & fight. Raise pets. An idle space RPG, solo or online.

Great game, but there is nothing outside the three initial galaxies you explore. Everything beyond those three galaxies is stagnant, repeats itself a bunch of times, and doesn't even have resources, strong enemies, better loot, nothing. In fact, what you acquire in the beginning Galaxy far exceeds what you'll ever find at the much farther galaxies. It's sad really, when you expect the further out you go to become more difficult and rewarding, only for it to fall flat on its face and be shallow.

Update: since 1.4's Reefs, 1.6 gave every station a real economy - hauling and contracts in the far galaxies now pay properly and scale with depth - plus a tiered contract board, six new ship hulls, and cloud saves + achievements in 1.5. The stagnant outer galaxies you reviewed are gone - I'd love to hear what you think on a fresh run!

Thank you for the update. I hope I'm not asking too much, but crafting is an inconvenience for me because I can't tell how many materials I have stored in my cargo/vault when I try to upgrade parts of a ship. It would be helpful to somehow track materials more easily. I also have a question: when selling at the best location, is there a limit to getting the best price, or do I get the best price the whole time I'm at that location? Or does it change when I switch tabs?

No problem at all! So the price drifts on its own at every station, with the biggest swings over about an hour, *and* a big sale will push that station down as you go. The quote already includes that, so you get what it shows. Tabs do nothing and now the materials are fixed in 1.3.1: the shipyard shows what you hold to help with crafting :)

deeply unfinished. the online feature is also exaggerated slightly - bots will follow you pretending to be players, these bots are present no matter what station you warp to. it wouldn't be bad if they didn't ping you for duels every 5s. there is also no desc difference between useless items/sell-only items, and items that you really should keep. many nodes you can travel to are cookie cutter autofill names with nothing going on, and just a standard 'unknown signal'. good for about 4 hours.

Hey! So you were right on all of it. Bots are tagged as Residents now and cannot spam duel pings, item descriptions say what is sell-only and what to keep, and anomalies have proper names and payoffs instead of Unknown Signal. 1.3.0 also adds an endless descent and a harder new galaxy for after the story. Really appreciate the feedback!

What’s new

Driftbound 1.7.3, two fixes from the Drift.

The Drift Egg could be forged but never hatched. The Incubator wasn't listing it, so it just sat in your hold doing nothing. It works now. Five days, and out comes a Drift Wyrm or a Drift Moth, which come from nowhere else. A Drift incubation survives re-enlisting too, instead of being wiped with the tour.

The Stormglass Capacitor and the Driftwake Siphon read as Legendary. Everything else you forge says Drift, and now so do they.
